To talk with each other – this was the wish expressed by the IEC members and by the victims of administrative detention and other compulsory welfare measures when they met for an exchange at the beginning of November.

This event aimed to give the IEC members an opportunity to talk with the victims about their personal experiences and considerations regarding the research work of the IEC.

In the morning, the meeting took place at the Heitere Fahne in Bern in form of a World Café, where approximately one hundred participants, i.e. IEC members, researchers and victims, discussed together the work of the IEC. The aim was to pinpoint the expectations and fears connected with the scientific revision of the matter. You can find the issues addressed and the evaluation of the discussions on the next page.

The afternoon was dedicated to more specific discussions concerning the single research fields and research issues of the IEC. Also, the IEC’s working methods, their use of sources etc. were presented for discussion. The victims were able to talk directly with the single researchers about their work and exchange their points of view with them.

The IEC «World Café»: Communication through group discussion The IEC sees its media and communications work as a process: research findings are important, but equally so are the means by which they are obtained. To better enable it to take the needs of its target groups into account in its communication efforts, the IEC seeks exchanges with those groups from the outset. Learn more
